We can be successful in our lives the EXACT same way.
Treating life like karate. One step at a time, small attainable goals that lead to the big one, becoming a Black Belt or understanding what Martial arts really is or being successful at something. Our school has a set plan laid out for our students, of how they will achieve their goals in and out of the dojo. Here are some ideas for making a plan.
Step one: Decide what you want. In order to get where you want to go you have to first figure out how to get there right? What exactly do you want, be as specific as you can. Literally, just like the Genie says, the devil is in the details.
For instance, “I want to become a millionaire” is not very specific right?
How about, “I want to have 1 million dollars by age 55.”
That’s better but not totally there yet. “I want to have 1 million dollars net worth by age 55.”
Getting better, but could still be better. “I want to have 1 million dollars net worth that includes real estate, stocks and bonds, Precious metals, Crypto Currency and a business generating 150k a year by age 55”
Way better right? I want to be a Black Belt is not specific enough. therefor know your exact intentions before you start.
Step 2: What are the mile stones you will need to hit to make that happen? I want to be a Black belt in 4 years and be proficient in my abilities while being able to pass on my knowledge and continue to grow is fairly specific. Martial arts is easy to use as an example because there is a plan to follow already, you just need the discipline to follow through.
You still need to know the plan as well as have back ups for unexpected events such as injuries, relationships and disasters. Thinking ahead puts you in a better position to pivot and adjust course to be able to continue pursuing your goals.
Step 3: Working backwards put them in order from last to first. This allows you to see the long range items and work towards figuring out the very first steps you need to take. Once you have the exact goal in mind, the hurtles you may face and the plan laid out in steps all you need now is the discipline to follow through and stay focused. Which leads me to
Step 4: Setting small bite size mini goals that start to chip away at the huge task at hand is how you stay focused. In martial arts we use belts and stripes as well as other tools to help our students and ourselves stay focused. Planning takes effort which is why the number of Black Belts and Millionaires in the world are very small in number. In our system it is about 1 in 4,ooo that earn a Black Belt. The number that Keep their Black Belt and continue on is even smaller still.
In the end, Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Do the work and write it out and you can be successful in you goal getting with discipline perseverance and a Yes I Can Attitude!
